Mondays with TED

Ever wondered who thought of using X to represent the unknown? We use the letter X (it would be my favourite letter, if I had to pick one) in algebra, in reference to Generation X, The X Factor and in countless other places.

In this very short talk, Terry Moore explains how it all started from an Arabic word. I am a word lover and finally joining the dots (via Greek and Latin, no less) gave me the biggest smile on this Monday morning!

I hope you enjoy these 3 minutes, even if you don’t care much for algebra or words.
